RAF Badminton Championships

RAF Badminton held its annual Open Championships from 11th-13th February at RAF Halton. With over 50 entrants, including numerous new players, competing in 15 events it proved a challenging event for all with a high standard of play across all events. Both the Ladies and Mens Singles were hard fought events with the eventual winners being Corporal Alex Dodds and RAF Ladies Captain Senior Aircraftwoman Katie Witting respectively.

The Ladies Doubles round robin was won by Witting and her RAF Reservist partner, Leading Aircraftwoman Jemima Cheetham. Cheetham also added the Ladies Novice Singles title to her haul and Witting completed a hat-trick winning the Mixed Doubles with Flight Lieutenant Barry Garnham, who, while losing out on the Singles final, took home the doubles trophy with Flight Sergeant Simon Gaines. Gaines added to his considerable collection of trophies by winning the Masters Singles and Doubles; the latter with Chief Technician Dave Colman. Corporal Andy Atkins also showed his potential by winning a long, 3-game final to take home the Mens Novice Singles title.
