Halton in Heritage Lottery bid

Mrs Emily Greenaway from the Heritage Lottery Fund has visited RAF Halton.

The purpose of her visit was for volunteers from the Trenchard museum and World War One Trench System to put forward a case to the Heritage Lottery Fund for funding towards erecting a WW1 Memorial and Education Centre at the Trenches.

First up was a tour of the Trenches by Flt Lt Andy Claesens and Cpl Russ Barber, who explained  to her about the work they do and what they have planned for the future. She was then given a tour of Halton House by Trixie Brabner.  In the afternoon she visited the Trenchard Museum and Groves Air Power Centre.

Cpl Barber said: “She seemed very impressed with everything we showed her and very interested in our plans to make a dug out at the Trench System and build an Education Centre there.

Emily said: “This is a fantastic site, with so much to see and do and with real links to WW1.  The Education Centre will be an incredible asset to the Station and the Trench project is so very realistic.”
