More Success for RAF Waddington and RAF Halton Pipes and Drums at the Scottish Pipe Band Championships

The Scottish Championships took place at Levengrove Park in Dumbarton this year.  25,000 visitors bathed in the July sunshine and watched 125 bands from Scotland, Ireland and Europe compete at this major event.

The band  were on top form and looking forward to competing against a much stronger and well established opposition than the All England Championship and so it proved to be. The bar was set incredibly high with some outstanding performances.

The RAF Ceremonial Office considers attendance at this event as the standards check for RAF Pipers and Drummers prior to deploying on Ceremonial Duties representing the wider Royal Air Force.

Our band, “The Waltons” as they are now known did not disappoint, and after a top flight performance,  picked up the silverware with a well earned 4th place.

A very pleased Pipe Major Lenny Browne commented, “This is just the boost we needed as we look forward to the World Pipe Band Championships at Glasgow Green in August where the standard will be even higher. This is the high point of the competing season for bands from all over the globe and we are proud to represent the Royal Air Force along with our colleagues from RAF Leuchars and 2622 Sqn from RAF Lossiemouth, who will also be competing at this event.”
