RAF Halton saddle club
You may have noticed on your travels around the Station that RAF Halton has a Saddle Club.
The Saddle Club is based in the stables originally built by Lord Rothschild to house his zebras and horses.
The Club is run by volunteers comprising of Serving personnel and dependants overseen by the OIC Flt Lt Kieri Dainty. The Club is currently set up as a DIY livery for Service personnel and dependants and is currently home to nine horses and Magic, the Stable Cat. Magic was adopted from the RSPCA and after a short period of hiding on top of the saddles is now very happy to meet and greet all visitors. Livery fees for the stables are very reasonable and we are enviably situated on the edge of Wendover Woods which has a large network of bridle-paths.
A lot of refurbishment has been taking place over the last few months to give the Club some much needed TLC. This has included gratefully received assistance from Douglas Intake, RTS, who helped out as part of their Community Support Day and did a fantastic job!
As part of our on-going process for regenerating the Club we will soon be welcoming the return of Pony Club Sessions. The Pony Club is ideal for young people interested in ponies and riding and provides an opportunity to learn to ride and find out about horse-mastery in a safe and fun way.
We have also recently hosted a very successful visit from the Rainbows and Rattles Group based at the Trinity Community Centre. The children and their parents were kept busy ‘mucking out’ and learning about grooming and were rewarded for their hard efforts with pony rides.
We are hosting an Open Day on Saturday 20th Jul 13 between 1300- 1600 hrs. If you would like to visit the Club to learn more please come along to the Saddle Club, RAF Halton. At our Open Day you can view our facilities, say hello to our current residents and meet Magic; And in true British equine fashion afternoon tea will also be available.
The Saddle Club is always looking for new members and if you would like to find out some more information or register an interest in the Pony Club please contact email@example.com.
