Wendover Juniors Football Tournament

Wendover Juniors Football Club (WJFC) again held their annual football tournament at RAF Halton recently with the help of some of the RAF’s newest airmen.

The tournament aims to reach out to all children’s football clubs within a 20 mile radius of RAF Halton. This year saw an amazing 230 teams with age groups ranging from Under 6’s to Under 15’s. They all braved strong winds and heavy showers to produce some highly entertaining football for the 4,000 spectator’s that turned out over the 2 day event.

Team captain for Wendover Juniors U13 team, James Patton said: “The team have played in 3 finals recently and have now finally won one. Beating Chesham Athletic 2-1 on penalties after extra time was awesome.”

WJFC Chairman Nick Collier gave a big thank you to the staff and airmen at RAF Halton who assisted in making this year’s tournament the most successful ever hosted.

Warrant Officer Chris Eden who helped to lead the team of airmen that made the day a success said: “We [RAF Halton] has a great sense of achievement knowing that we have played our part in helping WJFC raise in the region of £8,000. I’m also pleased that WJFC will be contributing £500 to the Station charities fund.”

RAF Halton through this type of event shows it’s dedication to sport, youth, and community and is truly part of the fabric of the community.
