Armed Forces Day

The Borough of Dacorum and RAF Halton launched this year’s Armed Forces Day with a flag raising ceremony in the centre of Hemel Hempstead.

The ceremony served to highlight the close connection with RAF Halton across the community.

The aim of Armed Forces Day, was to boost public support and appreciation of all those who serve and have served in HM Armed Forces and the theme was ‘Show Your Support’.

The Mayor, Councillor Herbert Chapman said: “I am proud to report that RAF Halton, who have been given Freedom of Entry to the Borough, have taken part in our small ceremony by providing a Guard of Honour salute at the Flag Staff outside the Civic Centre, along with members of the local branch of the Hemel Hempstead Royal British Legion.”

Wing Commander Darren Moss said: “At a local level, Armed Forces Day helps to reaffirm the strong links between RAF Halton and the Borough of Dacorum which was typified by last year’s Freedom Parade through Dacorum on Remembrance Day and is all the more poignant as we remember Corporal Barnsdale and Senior Aircarftsman Tomlin from Dacorum who have sadly died whilst serving their country. Armed Forces Day gives us the opportunity to pause and honour the men and women who dedicate their lives to the protection of our country and also celebrate the work that the Armed Forces do across the globe”.
