Halton Band Delights Wendover

The voluntary band from RAF Halton performed a concert in St Mary’s church to help raise funds for the on-going restoration fund.

Playing to a full house of appreciative concert-goers, the band played a wide variety of music from the classics to film and pop-classics. There were also three soloists who delighted the audience with renditions of Swing Low Sweet Chariot, Nella Fantasia and Boyce’s Trumpet Voluntary.

The church which requires funds for continuous restoration turned out to be a superb venue acoustically. The band’s Musical Director, Michael Pegram said: “The concert was a rewarding and worthwhile experience for the whole band.”

Raising around £1200 the concert was a great success; so much so that the organisers have already asked the band to return in June next year.

Flight Lieutenant Zia Higgins from RAF Halton said: “The band at RAF Halton is made up entirely of volunteers and supports a wide variety of Service functions in addition to performing in public. A great deal of their work raises money for charity such as this concert. The band is always a pleasure to listen to and represents the professionalism that RAF Halton aims to foster in all of its servicemen and women.”
