Halton launches All Ranks’ Sports Bar and Junior Ranks’ ‘Snug’
The Rothschild’s Bar above RAF Halton’s Chiltern Club has been refurbished and re-launched as an All Ranks’ Sports Bar with a Junior Ranks’ ‘Snug’. Funds were provided by the ‘Gainshare’ donation, Halton’s share of ESS profits, and an opening party took place with live music, a disco and hot food.
The Station Commander, Group Captain Simon Harper, opened the new bar saying: “It is fabulous to be here at the newly refurbished Rothschild’s Club. It is a dramatic improvement of facilities and advances our position as the premier Home For Sport. I am very grateful to ESS and the Junior Ranks’ Fund for providing this facility which will hopefully be well used. Thanks must also go to Chris Walker and Flt Lt Eamonn Leacy for their hard work in making this happen, and thank you to everyone for coming.”
He then went on to open the Junior Ranks’ ‘Snug’ which aims to provide a space solely for Junior Ranks to relax in, the room has been ‘zoned‘ to allow for multiple activities to be enjoyed. Activities include: a pool table, table football, a wide screen television and gaming. The ‘Snug’ has also been funded from the public element of the ‘Gainshare’. SAC Lauren Bird commented that it was: “A fantastic facility and we are already planning mid week chick flick film nights.”
Sgt Ian Shooter said: “The Station has been in need of this kind of facility for a long time. Other Stations have All Ranks’ Bars so it is good to see RAF Halton opening one.”
Praise for the newly refurbished bar came from everywhere with Phase Two trainees agreeing that is was: “A marvellous place to relax in with a less segregated feeling.”
Chris Walker, OC Accounts Flight, and Flt Lt Eamonn Leacy, OC PSF were initially tasked with the refurbishment and Chris said: “We were tasked with providing the Junior Ranks with their own room, coinciding with the launch of the All Ranks’ Sports Bar. In just four weeks we transformed an empty room into a New York style loft apartment complete with sofas, pool table, gaming area, eating area and a chill-out zone. We both thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and hope that we have given the Junior Ranks a space to relax in and be proud of.”
