HHOM Open Day

The doors to Halton House were again opened to the public this September as part of National Heritage week. As the date coincided with the Halton village fete, people had the added bonus of visiting both events, as well as being able to enter the Trenchard Museum.

As in previous years the Halton House Heritage Committee coordinated the day with Squadron Leader Karen Swanston in overall charge of proceedings. Her team did such a sterling job that attendance was at an all time high. This was largely down to the considered efforts of Mrs Trixie Brabner in charge of publicity and advertising, Mr Michael Turner as Art Advisor to the committee and Mr Min Larkin as the Oracle of all things Halton.

The team were ably assisted by the debonair Sqn Ldr Lee Cobley, who each year finds new ways to keep the public enthralled as he waxes lyrical as a tour guide about Halton House. There were tour guides present in each of the rooms and the thousands of people that streamed through the doors were treated to the grandeur of the Salon and other decadent architectural pieces.

The public were able to sample the food in Halton House, as well as bask in the surroundings and wonderful weather that befitted the day. The only hope is that the weather and attendance on 1st September 2013 for the next open day is equally as good.
