OAP Christmas Party
In December, a hundred pensioners from across Aylesbury Vale enjoyed the Bucks Herald OAP Christmas Party held at RAF Halton.
The event was sponsored by Compass the contract caterer at RAF Halton and staff from the Unit provided a magnificent Christmas lunch for the guests. Motts Coaches provided the transport while Dan Blasor provided some entertainment.
The OAPs enjoyed a sumptuous meal with the bonus of RAF Halton personnel acting as the waiters and waitresses for the day. An appearance was even made by a familiar looking Santa.
The RAF Halton voluntary band played a selection of traditional Christmas favourites to entertain the diners.
Following the meal a feast of festive bingo was delivered as the Bucks Herald deputy editor Alan Candy drew the numbers whilst MC Dan Blasor of Blaze Disco & Karaoke acted as caller.
The OAPs then turned back the clock and a number of brave pensioners stepped forward for a karaoke competition with a twist. It was an X Factor-style event that ended in a three-way tie – surely something that would not have happened with Simon Cowell on the panel!
With renewed vigour many of the pensioners then leapt onto the dance floor to cut-a-rug, shake-a-tail-feather and dance the afternoon away to the sounds of the disco, the RAF Halton personnel joining in with the merriment in a festive conga.
To complete the day, the guests had the opportunity to take away a gift bag and a ‘ration pack’, with all saying that they would be back next year.
