RAF Halton’s local RAFA branch celebrate their 70th anniversary

RAF Halton’s Station Commander, Group Captain Simon Harper, was the guest of honour at a celebratory dinner at the Station’s local Royal Air Force Association Club (RAFA) recently.

The dinner was to mark the 70th Anniversary of RAFA, and Group Captain Harper, who is also the Branch President, presented two Awards of Appreciation to local people who work tirelessly for the Club and charity.

The first award, The Bartlett Cup, was presented to Mrs Jean Brixey for her services to RAFA over many years. She organises raffles and is a very active and successful Wings Appeal Collector. The Bartlett Cup was named after a past stalwart of the RAFA Club, Mr Paul Bartlett.

Second award was the Certificate of Appreciation, awarded to Flight Sergeant Doug White, who has been a Standard Bearer since 2001. The Certificate was accepted on his behalf by Branch Chairman Derf Mockford.

Group Captain Harper said: “The Royal Air Force Association is a very special organisation, it has played a vital role supporting the RAF family and it was a pleasure to be invited to celebrate its 70th Anniversary.  I was also delighted to thank Mrs Brixey and FS White for their exceptional commitment to RAFA.  The RAFA has a unique place in the RAF family and the welfare, support and advice they provide to service personnel, veterans and our families is exceptional – long may it continue.”
