SSAFA present Groves Air Power Centre with cheque
Soldiers, Sailors and Air Force Association, (SSAFA) representatives, Mrs Tammi Beardsall, and Mrs Julie Smith presented a cheque for £500 to the Groves Air Power Centre at Recruit Training Squadron (RTS) at RAF Halton this week.
Flight Sergeant Shaun Turner, from the Training Cell at RTS, who accepted the cheque on behalf of the Squadron, said: “SSAFA have kindly donated £500 to the Groves Air Power Centre to help furnish this facility. Recruit Training Squadron is looking at developing their Phase One training course and hope to purchase some interactive training resources that all recruits and staff can utilise. It is a resource that has been developed by Recruit Training Squadron to provide an appropriate study environment for all recruits and staff to research their Air Power topics. The facility houses a large Air Power timeline (1783-present day) and a large selection of books and DVDs relating to Air Power. This facility has been carefully designed to provide the best possible learning environment for both groups and individuals to study. Complete with lectern and large projector screen, it is utilised by every Phase One course to prepare and deliver their Air Power presentations. This facility is also available to station personnel to hone their Air Power knowledge and presentation skills. A very big thank you to Tammi and Julie for thinking about us.”
Tammi said: “We collected the money from our routine fund raising, selling cakes and having a doughnut day. In the past we have donated to the local school and charities but we wanted to do something for the Station, and this Air Power Centre is a wonderful facility.”
The Groves Air Power Centre was formally opened by Air Vice-Marshal M G Lloyd RAF, Air Officer Commanding No. 22 (Training) Group/Chief Of Staff (Training) on the 13 Nov 2012.
