Station Commander’s Foreword

I hope that this Winter Edition of Mainpoint finds you refreshed following the Christmas break and I wish you all the very best for the coming year.

As I look back at 2011, I have reflected on the many great achievements of RAF Halton personnel, whether on ops, in your normal place of work or through participation in the many charity and sporting events that have been supported; I never fail to be impressed by the dedication and hard work of individuals from across the Station, whether in uniform or not.  The coming year will see us continuing to address the challenges that 2011 presented but I am pleased that we have been able to invest in some quality of life improvements, including the imminent new car park for the Trinity Community Centre.

This edition is a showcase for ‘Team Halton’, whether it be the talent in our impressive training system; our support to the local community through our committed First Responders or events such as the OAPs Christmas Party; the arrival of the new play parks; or the great achievements by Catering Training Sqn who will be sadly missed as they leave RAF Halton for Worthy Down.  Some of the articles also show that our connection with the local community continues to strengthen through engagement with bodies such as the Bucks New University, local and national charities, and other local good causes.  However, this edition also includes the poignancy of the remembrance parades we participated in, alongside our very special Royal visit from Princess Alexandra.

We do so much with a relatively small footprint at RAF Halton and it is reassuring that the high tempo of work is balanced by so many people taking the opportunity to invest in their own development and enjoy the broader elements of Service life. I encourage you all to get involved and benefit from the likes of the Air Power Staff Rides, Team Building events, Adventurous Training, or by getting involved in sports teams and events.  May 2012 be all that you wish it to be!
